Age: 45 Height: 5’8″ tall (almost!), Usual weight: 130lbs. Home area, the village of L’Anse, Michigan, now Marquette, the “big city” of the Upper Peninsula.
Biking, cross country skiing, yoga and strength training are my favorite activities. I enjoy the social and physical aspects, and have made many of my best friends through these sports. My greatest love is the outdoors, and that includes all four seasons.
I compete in biking and skiing, doing local races as well as an occasional WORS race in Wisconsin. My goal is always to improve my time from the previous year or to be able to ride a part of a trail that has given me difficulty in the past.
Goals for the 2011-12 season: keep my core strong as I have on going lower back issues. If I let up on my core strength at all I am in pain to the point that it affects my ability to ride/race. I also want to continue working on improving my technical mountain biking skills.
Nutritional Challenges: DIET COKE. I drink too much. I am a RN and work in home health which translates to many miles on the road and long work days. Often I chose to skip lunch instead of succumbing to a grab of fast food. If I do not pack something, I go hungry. I know this leads to fatigue, and am sure depletion of carbohydrate stores. I am committed to changing this and plan on starting with the use of CLIF bars for a easy nutritional snack when I am on the road.
No two days are ever the same for me, but here is an example on a typical work day:
0700 wake up hungry eat a large bowl of whole grain cereal with skim milk. 2 cups of black coffee
0800 start work, black coffee in travel mug
1000: a piece of whatever fruit is in season and some sea salted almonds if I remember to pack them, diet Coke
Keep driving, keep working, try to stay on schedule
5-6pm Finish work, then
Dinner chicken breast, brown rice, green beans, skim milk
Work out: 2 hour bike or ski
Evening Snack: Greek yogurt, almonds, diet Coke
